HAT ROAD

Towards Careggine

VIAREGGIO – VOGHERA

26 - 27 / 09/26

La HAT ROAD changes pace and in 2026 presents itself in a new guise: a single Marathon, which connects the sea to the plain, from Viareggio to Voghera, the new arrival point. A long journey, a dense network of winding and inviting asphalt roads.

From Tuscany to Lombardy, two intense days, with endless curves and ups and downs. La HAT ROAD it is a journey whose philosophy remains that of leave the main roads Choosing the less traveled ones, which mostly wind through hills. There are no restrictions on the motorcycle categories permitted, however, given the nature of the roads encountered, supersport bikes are not recommended.

La HAT ROAD It is not a competition, but a tourist adventure (to be experienced even with a passenger) that everyone can tailor-made: to allow everyone to experience the same adventure, along the same route, choosing the formula best suited to their needs, the new edition introduces in addition to the Classic to the category Discovery. Furthermore, it is not mandatory to complete the entire route or pass through all the checkpoints. Each participant can decide at any time to shorten the route or withdraw.

The journey is made unique by the proven collaboration with Paul Counts, creator of the “Bitumenduro”, an expert route setter, capable of leading participants to surprising places, often unknown to most. The itinerary starts from Viareggio, the arrival at Voghera, while a dedicated roadmap It will help every motorcyclist manage time and pace, allowing them to reach both the intermediate stop on the route and the final destination without stress.

Navigation will take place via official GPX track, with the presence of secret checkpoints which certify the correct execution of the marathon. Whoever completes the entire itinerary passing through all the checkpoints gets the 100 % Marathon Prize, a symbol of commitment, perseverance and respect for the trail.

Since 2026 they are not foreseen HAT ROAD in conjunction with the Adventourfest: one big event, one single event Marathon, which will be held on the last weekend of September.

THE CATEGORIES
La HAT ROAD 2026 takes place on 100% paved routes, following a format Marathon which combines driving precision, pace management and freedom of travel.

The path of the Classic measure About 650 km and most of these are traveled on narrow streets, out of time, challenging. Where it is important knowing how to manage energy and anticipating braking: it's a challenge.

Next to the formula Classic, in 2026 the debut will also be made Discovery, a more flexible proposal, designed for those who have less time but don't want to give up on adventure, and which is divided into two independent itineraries:

  • Discovery/Saturday: Viareggio → Berceto (approximately 280 km)
  • Discovery/Sunday: Berceto → Voghera (about 300 km)

You can also choose the package Discovery Saturday + Sunday (for a total of approximately 580 km).

La Classic remains the ideal choice for those who want to tackle the Marathon in its entirety, without compromise, following the complete itinerary Viareggio Voghera and living the HAT Road in its most intense form:

  • Two days non stop driving (approximately 650 km)
  • Overnight stop in Berceto

The central element of the experience is the Roadmap HAT: a practical and detailed guide, divided into two categories, which provides information on travel times, recommended times, key points along the route and optimal driving paces.

FROM VIAREGGIO TO BERCETO
La HAT ROAD it is much more than a simple itinerary: it is a real journey that unites, we said, the Tyrrhenian Sea  to the Po Valley riding the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines and touching isolated villages, for hundreds of kilometers of only curves, a true intoxication of bends and spectacular panoramas.
Departure on September 26th from the Art Nouveau seafront of the beautiful Viareggio (LU), with the face on Apuan AlpsThere are famous routes that go beyond them, passing through the marble quarries, but we are looking for secondary roads unknown to most people; therefore, we will pass through the passes of Gombitelli (552 m), la Sella Mouth (740m) and the Mouth of Bucine (828 m) e Bicocca (962 m). We will have the feeling that Garfagnana will never arrive.
As in 2025, we will not miss the horseshoe that passes through Renaio (LU), in the midst of the dense forests of Garfagnana. I went down to Castelnuovo di Garfagnana (LU), you go up to San Pellegrino in Alpe (LU), one of the most evocative medieval mountain villages in Italy, at an altitude of 1510 m. After the Pradaccio Pass (1617 m) and the Roots (1529 m), still snow-covered at the time of the scouting, we move on to the province of Modena to tackle a constellation of passes and cross important valleys such as those of the rivers Parma, Taro and CenoThey are not rugged mountains, but rounded and they would even be bucolic if it were not an area of immense landslides, disconcerting in their devastation. Finally, more than 290 km after the start, we land at Berceto (PR), where you can dine and spend the night.

FROM BERCETO TO VOGHERA
It starts with the hills up to the Arda Valley, with the contrast between tiny villages like Borla and Cergallina and an immense cement factory then, after the Mount Pellizzone Pass (1044 m), you descend into the splendid Bardi, dominated by a beautiful castle and home to the 2025 stage finish. Then we go up the Ceno Valley and you climb the Tomarlo Pass (1482 m), beyond which you enter Liguria, in the province of Genoa.
Now begins a very long and very tortuous phase that ventures into a wild and suggestive Apennines, whose main valleys are those of the rivers Aveto and Trebbia. The Chiodo Pass (1456 m) is one of the most intriguing of the whole tour, in the thick of a forest, but we were struck by the sense of solitude that the road conveyed to us, which, in rapid succession, touches the passes of the Little fish (1179 m), of Coin of the Cascine (1181 m), of the Serra (1085 m) and of the Monte Veri (1077 m).
You enter the province of Piacenza and pass through the slopes of the Mount DegoMercatello Pass (1053 m), the Santa Barbara Pass (1148 m) and the bucolic Caldarola Pass (747 m).
The finale is a long crossing of theBeyond Pavese, with crest features reminiscent of the roller coaster, surprises like the Oramala Castle, always fun roads like the “Little Stelvio” above the Lake Trebecco, crossing vineyards, the village of Volpedo with the mural of the Fourth State on the wall of a house up to Voghera, an ancient commercial center with a beautiful medieval center, at the meeting point between the plains and the mountains, famous for its wines.
